My Why…

I have to be honest. Until the last few months, I’ve never really thought about my ‘why’. I knew I wanted to teach once I reached the age of 15 and had to do a week’s work experience. I chose the Primary school I’d attended a few years earlier, and as far as I can remember, I just thought it’d be a cool way to spend the week - and I’d get to go into the all-revered staffroom! That week changed the course of my life for the next thirty years and I’m now in my twentieth year of teaching.

I still love teaching and the relationships I’ve formed with families and colleagues will stay with me forever, but I’m tired. I’m tired and frustrated with a system that is broken. In fact, I’m so tired and frustrated, that I decided to do something about it. In July last year, I mentally started to break away. I knew that I couldn’t keep going for the next twenty years and, with some encouragement and support from my husband, I really started to explore what options were out there for me. Was I scared? Yes! Am I still scared now? Absolutely! I knew I wanted to continue with a career that allows me to support others. I looked at number of options including tutoring and becoming a Personal Trainer. But having now been training with the Health Coaches Academy since October (alongside still teaching), I am sure that this is the path that I’m meant to be treading.

Three months in and I am now a Personalised Care Institute Practitioner, meaning I have enough qualification to work for the NHS. I still have another nine months until I complete my full training, and can say that I am an accredited Health and Wellness Coach. Until then, I will continue to blog - as a way to document my journey for myself as much as anyone else. I really believe in this journey and hope to help others to becoming their TrueSelf.
